lol ok then dont gvg! read the gotw builds and how they do it! 1) flag control! this is essential! it can turn a time from zero to hero w/ a good boost! 2) stay 2gether and work as a team! 3) get vent or ts for better communication! 4) have a strategy going into the gvg then be able to adapt of the fly 5) HAVE 1 LEADER! if everyone thinks they know wut they're doing it goes better! 6) PRACTICE builds in hoh FIRST!! 7) have fun!

Don???t feel stupid, and don???t feel like you have a bad guild because you lost a couple of GvGs. All guilds, even the uber-top-ladder guilds had to start somewhere.

Get to know your hall. Inside and out. Find the fastest way to the flag stand, where the environmental features are (gates that open/close, lock/unlock, ice, quicksand, teleporters, ballistae). All halls have their unique features to make the battle interesting.

While you???re at it, go back to Lion???s Arch, to the ferryman at the docks where you went to choose an island. Take some key guildies, or all of them, on a tour of ALL the islands.

Find a friendly guild to do unranked battles with???and if you can convince them not to fight until an agreed-upon time after the timer starts, all the better. That???ll give you time to get situated, because you will suddenly have all these NPCs around, guild lord, sometimes thief, bodyguards, etc. We did this with a friendly guild, except that both guilds were on TS together, and it worked out well to talk them through what happens.

EDIT: Thought I would point out, just in case, that the object of the GvG, is to kill the other team's guild lord. In order to be successful, depending on timing, you may have to kill the other team???s players several times (while they resurrect automatically) before you make it to the guild lord. I won???t lie, it???s tough, especially against organized teams.

First, don't expect to win the first few times you go in.

You need experience, and with the rest of your guild as well. Keep playing unrated with your guild, and practice. Figure out what works, what doesn't. And build upon that. That way, you might find a build that can suit your guild. Just don't expect much so soon.

As the post above said, know your hall inside and out, as well as others. While playing unrated, you can go around and check out other maps. Doesn't matter if you are dying, you're learning, right? Know how to put a team together, how to play together.

Good luck.

as my enlightened guild officer above me stated, it takes time, practice, patience and organization.
our guild has a terrible gvg record, though admittedly due largely in part to GW's deplorable team-matching system...ranking us with a rank 87 guild in our first ever gvg (we had THREE people below lvl 20 and a 1,000 guild rank...thats unacceptable).
but the point is, only after losing gvg after gvg did some of my more "zealous" members finally break down and listen to my resolve, of not only improving the average players level, but thier number of available skills, thier experience in pvp, organization, and in the diversity of our characters.
2 months later and i still feel we are unprepared; simply because overpreparedness is an impossibility; you are either prepared, or unprepared.

we're still working out a few bugs too after... a while... (not to mention the automatic matching system... ACK! but that's another topic entirely)

but keep in mind that the Guild Ladder will be reset periodically so jump in and GvG until your heart's content, then when the ladder gets reset after the current Tournament sometime you'll have some battle-hardened GvGers ready to go! My advice is to give everyone in your Guild a chance to GvG. If you're that bad, or just starting out, you're not going to get into the top 500 ranked Guilds anytime soon so you may as well make the best of it.

And don't forget to have fun. Last night we won one and got demolished by another but we had a blast anyways. It was great to see how we tromped the second Guild in the initial confrontation but when they came back they had gotten their stuff together, started targetting us the right way and we didn't stand a chance.

A couple of things are pretty essential to doing well in GvG:

1. Good communication - everyone should at least be able to listen on TS or Vent, the leader and flagrunner at least need mics. Ideally everyone can talk in order to easily pass communication around.

2. Some sort of build. A good starting point would be 2 healers, one protection, one flagrunner, and 4 damage dealers. Make sure you have some sort of hex removal and condition removal as well. All of the damage dealers should have rez sigs. Rez skills are less useful as they tend to get interruppted and they also tend to get the monks killed even more as they don't heal while they are rezzing.

3. You need some sort of plan. As was mentioned before, you should learn each of the different guild halls. Then you need to figure out what you want to do for each. Maybe you'll attack their base first. Maybe you'll all go to the flag stand to cap it. Maybe you'll split and do both.

4. You need coordination. This means you need a leader that knows the plan and everyone listens to him or her. The leader determines the movement and strategy for the match, and communicates this quickly.

Anyway thats my take. I was pretty much a noob to GvG just a couple months back, but since the ladder reset I have done well over 200 GvGs with various amounts of success. Try to keep it all about learning and having fun and you should be okay.

I think your best way would be to do unrated so you guys can practive... Teamwork is the most important thing and not everyone understand that.

Best way is figuring out a good combination of character types that work well together, a basic setup is 2 warriors, 2-3 healers 2-3 nukers/air nukers, 2-3 ranger/mesmer caster screwers or a 3rd elementalist high in inspiration/domination magic or a necromancer battery (meaning one who does a lot of blood sacrifice for enery transfer to others. A simple build that might help you out a lot, try doing this for a bit see how well you guys do. If you want help with specific GvG build, feel free to message me.
